Cooperatives in Nepal

Nepal has a long cultural tradition of informal community-based co-operatives including savings and credit associations popularly known as Dhikuti, and grain savings and Labour exchanging systems known as Parma and Dharma Bhakari. Similarly, Guthi provided a forum to work together for smoothly running different socio-cultural practices. I take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to the member affiliates, entire SACCOS community, the cooperative movement and stakeholders for exercising their voting and voicing rights in the 32nd Annual General Meeting held on 23 and 24 December 2023. This new role for me is a good mix of emotions filled with thrill and trepidation. I am thrilled in the sense that I have a nice combo of an experienced and energetic team in the board and diligent human resource in the management. The other emotion of apprehension is whether I would be able to meet up the challenges that lie ahead in the cooperative sphere and deliver. There is no second thought that the economic sector of the country has been hit hard…..
